About Us
Roger Halliwell
Is the calming influence of the Project Ted team. A sprightly 69 year old this year, his wisdom is coupled with a young at heart outlook. He is a keen yachtsman and tennis player and in his younger years a keen skier with the Royal Navy. As a Naval Officer he saw active service, spending Christmas on Christmas Island, Easter on Easter Island and Pancake Day on Pancake Island!! In civilian life he has held senior management positions with large corporations and he will certainly need to use all of his motivational, logistical and man management skills to get the best out of his cyclists and keep them out of trouble! He is a vital member of the team, without him and the all too easy to overlook tasks he does, the ride would be jeopardised.

Rob Millward,
Man of Mystery, it's a real mystery why he wanted to join our band so much. Rumour has it that he is the love child of Fidel Castro and Marilyn Munroe, and brought up in a Tibetan monastery. By day he is responsible for the safety and well being of MOD staff, but by night….. who knows? He says if he told us, he'd have to kill us!! At 6 ft 6ins and 18 stones he will be testing his inner tubes severely, but he has a cunning plan which involves helium filled balloons being secreted inside his person!! Rob plays his rugby at St Marys Old Boys and is keen to raise as much money as possible for PROPS. His sporting hero is Laird Hamilton, described by his wife Rachel as "a really fit, buff bloke". Apparently he's a very well known surfer, quite how t'internet qualifies as a sport is beyond the rest of us! Rob hopes to be riding along on a wave of euphoria all the way from John O Groats to Lands End and all points in between.
George Campbell
The oldest cyclist in the team wants to dedicate his sporting success to his hero Worzel Gummidge, whom he describes as being outstanding in his field!! Also at 6ft 6ins, but a much more svelte 16.5 stones, George has refused the helium filled balloon option, instead placing his faith in rubber, inner tubes that is. He plays his rugby at Avonmouth Old Boys, Bristol Supporters and PROPS Barbarians. On current form he is searching for a Chinese takeaway specialising in spare ribs. On a more positive note he has saved a fortune in rhinoplasty by assaulting opposition players’ foreheads with the bridge of his nose. His sporting heroes include, Steve Ovett, Daley Thompson and Steve Scott, the latter being a five-time world Hawaii Ironman Triathlon champion from the 80's – that’s the 1880's, which George just about remembers. Provided his memory holds and he remembers what day of the week it is, George will be setting out with the rest of the team and is determined to raise a wad of cash for PROPS and persuade other Premiership / Division 1 clubs to adopt PROPS as their nominated charity.

Ian Halliwell
Ex Royal Marine Ian, Gerry to his friends, spends his spare Time windsurfing and flying helicopters....... at the same time apparently. His sporting hero is Robby Naish, the first internationally renowned windsurfer. Ian likes nothing more than to feel the wind whistling through his hair (Black Adder fans have permission to chuckle!)! His overall hero is Ernest Shackleton, whom Ian met many years ago, and describes as a top bloke. Ian lets off steam via Tae Kwon Do, which literally translated means, kick, punch, way, and on that basis he will be making his rugby playing debut for PROPS this coming season, after successfully completing this bike ride. Ian’s knowledge of the telecoms industry is legendary. When it comes to know how, he knows how. He doesn't know how he knows how, he just knows he knows how. No one else knew he knew how until his know how became known to us all, but know that we all know about his know how we wonder why we never knew about it before!!

Patrick Halliwell
Paddy is the youngest member of the group, proud of the fact that he was born in the 70's, the decade that taste forgot!! A Portsmouth University graduate and electrical and electronics engineer he is now MD of Daktronics UK, subsidiary of Daktronics INC, the world’s largest supplier of LED video screens to the sports and bill board markets. It's the only way he'll ever get his name up in lights! His sporting heroes include Lance Armstrong & Muhammed Ali - Weighing in at a strapping 5' ft 9" and 12 stone, Paddy will be giving little in the way of slip stream for the bigger lads, but he will be fighting for the largest bed in the support camper van (quite frankly he has 2 hopes, Bob and No)! He relaxes by riding his motorbike, skydiving & climbing, Paddy is most looking forward to endless pasta, energy drinks galore, blisters and one mean smelling camper van... Perhaps not!

The Charity
PROPS is a rugby inspired charity that helps put sparkle in the lives of children and young people with special needs.
Projects range from Mini and Junior Barbarian Rugby (supported by the RFU) and Cricket squads, to the delivery of pre entry level community based coursework as well as vocational based qualifications at level two.
Here’s a snapshot of PROPs’ current project base:
• Sporting initiatives for the whole community, including the mini and junior Barbarians. Mirrored at senior level too, these teams are truly differentiated and boast the support of Premiership rugby clubs. Teams have representatives from the whole community, including those with special needs.
• The creative arts are important, and in partnership with Hello Interactive, PROPs are currently developing a number of performance based projects using technology such as sound beam.
• In conjunction with Bristol Rugby, PROPs are developing a unique delivery of qualifications and awards to the professional playing squad and severely handicapped youngsters. This successful pilot has qualified professional sportsmen with a CCV at level two (Community Certificate in Volunteering), which in turn has provided them with the necessary skills to deliver the pre entry level award to special needs youngsters.
• PROPs are proud to have linked up with local and national companies to develop sheltered work experience opportunities. These ongoing opportunities for the special needs community have the support of all PROPs supporters and sponsors.
• The commitment to community access is represented by a small fleet of vehicles, all of which are fitted with wheelchair access and include a high dependency facility.
• PROPs works collaboratively with other charities and organisations to promote inclusive initiatives. Currently PROPs are working with the Long John Silver Trust to promote the rich maritime and literary heritage of Bristol’s harbourside through interactive landmarks.
